Leagues Cup: Nashville SC only has themselves to blame for the loss to Toluca

The referee was poor again, but Nashville SC was poor defensively and saw one of its players sent off again after arguing with the ref.

It was clear from the offset that it would be one of those matches.

Chippy, fast-paced, and featured a referee all too willing to interject himself into the game but unwilling to give out cards to repeat offenders.

It was another one of those matches where Nashville had the chances, got the goals, and should have at least earned a draw in front of the home crowd. However, the wheels fell off when Teal Bunbury - who was introduced in the second half - was shown yellow for a phantom foul on the goalkeeper before losing his temper with the referee and being shown a second yellow 12 minutes later.

For the sixth time in July, an NSC player saw red, and for the third time in four matches, NSC lost because of it.

At some point, we as fans must realize that, sadly, the officiating is just this bad and inconsistent. Our complaints will do nothing to change PRORef's handling of its officials, and we will not get any explanation as to why a call was or was not made.

More importantly, the players must realize this and keep their composure.

In three of their last four matches, at least one Nashville SC player has been shown red. In the matches against Philly and Cincy, two players were sent off.

The referee being poor is no longer a valid excuse for the behavior of the Nashville players. It's clear from watching their interactions with the referee and the opponents over the last several matches that when things are not going their way - whether in front of goal, defensively, or because of a referee ruling - and the players are losing their cool.
