Rodrygo Goesias scored twice to give Real Madrid a 2-1 victory over Sevilla

Real Madrid's Rodrygo Goesias had a night to remember on Saturday

scoring twice to give Los Blancos a 2-1 win over Sevilla in LaLiga.

The 18-year old Brazilian forward stepped up in the absence of fellow countryman Vinícius Júnior who was absent from the match following an international uproar against racial abuse he has endured.

Rodrygo put Real Madrid ahead early with his first goal coming just 15 minutes into the game, and then doubled their lead shortly before halftime when he fired home from close range after good work by Luka Modric down the left flank.

His performance was one of great poise and maturity for someone so young, showing both excellent technique and clinical finishing ability that belied his age.

It wasn't all plain sailing however as Sevilla pulled one back through Luuk de Jong late in second half injury time but it proved too little too late as Real held on for victory despite intense pressure throughout much of the second period.

With this result they have now moved up into third place in LaLiga standings - level with Barcelona - which is testament to how well Zinedine Zidane has been able get out of his players since returning at start 2019/20 season campaign last summer!

The success will no doubt be bittersweet without Vinícius Junior present though; not only because it would have been nice for two Brazilians playing together at such a high level but also due to what happened off field prior kick off which led him being absent altogether – making Rodrygo’s heroics even more special given circumstances!
